Beat the heat!

Hello all my lovely nature lovers! If you happen to live in Florida summer is here. Even if you don't live in Florida, more than likely summer is coming to you really soon. It is really hard to journal outside during the unrelenting heat. But here are some hacks to keep you journaling all through the summer.

  • Start early in the morning. I normally have people meet at 9 am but during the summer I move it to 8.

  • Make sure to bring PLENTY OF DRINKING WATER. More than you think you will need.

  • Know you heat tolerance. Believe me, everyone would rather you know your limits then have an emergency situation on their hands.

  • Find places that also have an indoor area. I have been setting up the last 2 or 3 meetings at Circle B because they have an environmental center. Too hot? We walk in the center and sketch. Raining? Same.

  • How far do you want to hike with all your gear? Cut it in half.

  • Stay close to home. Find a sit spot in your yard and spend time journaling there.

  • Install a bird feeder.

  • Plant native plants near a window, journal the pollinators that come to the plants and the plants themselves.

  • Still want sketch but want something a little more exotic or exciting? Try to find some live cams at zoos, aquariums or even nest cams. like:

  • Buy some flowers and sketch them at home.

  • Have your own pets? Sketch and document them!

Have other ideas? Let me know! I understand that a lot of people don't want to get out and about in this heat but don't let it slow you journaling practice!

Happy Sketching!

Love this post Danielle. I haven't been very active lately, but these suggestions are really great.

I'll try to make it to some journaling meet-ups soon.
